Sugar waxing
Sugar hair removal works differently to waxing: the paste is applied against the direction of hair growth and removed in the direction of growth, parallel to the skin. The hairs are removed from the root without breaking, and the impact on the skin is considerably less: this, in fact, explains the popularity of this method amongst people with sensitive skin and clients who are prone to ingrown hairs.
The difficulty lies elsewhere: the paste reacts to the heat of the hands and the ambient humidity. If an unsuitable consistency is chosen, the treatment cannot be carried out. This protocol describes the technique and methods for selecting the correct consistency.
Clean, completely dry skin. Sugar is soluble in water: even the slightest trace of moisture is enough to dissolve it, preventing it from sticking to the hairs.

The consistency should be chosen according to the temperature of your hands, the room temperature and the thickness of your hair. ‘Ultra-soft’ – cold hands, air-conditioned room, fine hair. ‘Soft’ – for daily use, strip method. ‘Firm’ – warm hands, normal to thick hair, manual technique. ‘Extra-firm’ – summer, heavy sweating, thick hair. If the paste is too soft, it sticks without removing the hairs; if it is too hard, it breaks them.

It is the opposite of waxing, and that is precisely where the benefit of using sugar lies: the paste is applied against the direction of hair growth, so as to completely envelop the hairs right down to the root, then removed in the direction of hair growth, parallel to the skin. The hairs are removed entirely without being snapped off, thereby reducing the risk of ingrown hairs.
