Strengthening the natural nail with a rubber base coat
A rubber base coat is not just a simple base coat to apply beneath coloured nail varnish: it is a strengthening layer that absorbs impact and compensates for the lack of flexibility in a thin nail. If applied correctly, it lasts between three and four weeks without peeling off; if applied incorrectly, it peels off within eight days and leaves the nail plate more brittle than before.
This guide describes the entire process of applying the coating to the natural nail — from preparation to the top coat — with particular attention to the factors that determine the coating’s durability: degreasing, layer thickness and shaping the nail tip.
After cutting, remove any dust and grease residue. This step is often overlooked, but it is the main cause of delamination: the primer will not adhere to a greasy surface, even if the grease is not visible.

Both products are essential and cannot be used as substitutes for one another. The dehydrating agent removes residual moisture from the keratin, whilst the acid-free primer forms a chemical bond with the substrate. Apply a very thin layer and allow to air-dry; do not cure.

Before application, shape the nail using a 100/180-grit file to give it its final shape. Correcting the shape of the nail after it has hardened damages the reinforcement layer and leaves the free edge exposed, making it susceptible to moisture.

You can choose any shade: clear for a natural look, milky or skin-coloured to conceal any imperfections in the nail plate. The application technique remains the same: first, apply a very thin layer over the entire surface, followed by a second layer to strengthen the tip of the nail.
